Teaching Philosophy

Throughout my life, I have been impacted not just as a student, but also as a person, by all of my teachers who have invested time, and shared their knowledge with me. Coming full circle, I have had the opportunity to not only be a student but to also be a teacher. I have taught privately since coming to the United States in 2005, and have also taught class piano for the last five years. Being Chinese, I come from a rich musical and cultural tradition, over the last ten years I have experienced Western music in a Western atmosphere, and therefore have been enriched musically and multi-culturally, which adds an extra dimension of versatility to my skill sets.

Being a teacher is a valuable learning experience. Therefore, teaching personally deepens my own musical insight, and establishes constructive reinforcement of all that I have learned, and may draw on as a resource for my students to have the most beneficial learning, and growth process. Ultimately, I would like to positively impact the lives of young talented pianists in the future, just as my distinguished teachers have done for my own development. Therefore my teaching philosophy is based on the interdependence of all aspects of an individuals being, just as teaching, learning and performing constructively interact, and so to touch the heart of an audiences is to open the mind of a student.
